Some people think of fashion as an investment, they have no problem spending most of their income on anything in the name of fashion. As for me, I think fashion is a luxury. Something that I would like to have but can't really afford to.
When it comes to shopping, I tend to think thoroughly before purchasing any item especially on its practicality and price. I usually will get something that can still be 'fashionable' in 2 years time (at least), something that complements my skin tone, something that I can wear to visit relatives, to formal outings, something that's appropriate for the weather, and most importantly something that is not overpriced.
Of course in Malaysia, every single 'good brand' is overpriced. Designer brands like ZARA, MNG, Banana Republic, GAP, etc are more expensive here compared to other countries. I was so surprised when GAP was something that I could afford while I was in NY and here, it's 3 times the price! Dahla tu, there are Malaysians who buy those shit here! How much are they making to be able to afford overpriced clothes?? Ok, maybe MNG and Forever 21 is not that bad considering the quality of the brands, but still, after knowing the original price it's still a big difference for me.
Some people advised me to try out those independent labels that are more quirky and cheap. But, the problem that I usually face with these labels is that it's so difficult to find a perfect fit, and I'm not that patient when it comes to shopping. I also found from a friend that these labels actually get their stocks at a wholesale place somewhere in KL and the actual price is much cheaper. She said she once purchased several dresses for like RM12 each. Dang! But....you've gotta purchase them in every single sizes and colors. Otherwise, they're not gonna sell it to you that cheap. Comes to think of it, these indie labels are not the cheaper options anyway.
I used to have a passion for fashion I guess the older you get your priority changes. Now I'm more concerned whether I'd be able to eat and fill up gas and last till the next pay rather than which earring should I buy. I'd love to get back to my old habit but it takes so much effort now than before. Haih...
