It's almost 11pm now but I'm not sleepy. Yes people, I'm a grandma! I usually sleep by or before 11pm.
Talking about sleep, I haven't been able to sleep soundly for the past year. The main reason to that is because I'm suffering from a back pain which started a couple of months before I got married last year. Initially, I thought it was because my funny way of sleeping whereby I tend to twist myself to the left whenever I sleep on my side. After a couple of days of pain, I asked a friend to give me a kampung massage but it was still painful.
I didn't get a medical help immediately at the time because I thought it wasn't harmful, that it would recover on its own. Oh how wrong I was! Only after a couple of months did I tell my mother about it. She wanted me to get medical help pronto. But I was too busy preparing for my wedding, so I refuse to go to the hospital as I was afraid that it might get it the way of my wedding!
Eventually, the pain became unbearable. I went to University Hospital for check up. The GP said that I might have a symptom called 'sciatica' (google that for more info). She said it was mild and gave me some painkillers and ointment. She also asked me to go for physiotherapy. I was 'prescribed' with some exercises which I did religiously every day. Still, it didn't help.
When I went for my 2nd appointment, the GP referred me to an orthopedic. Got myself X-rayed and I could see that my spine and hips look funny. But, the doctor said that it was nothing to worry about and gave me more painkillers. By this time, I was already frustrated going to public hospital.
I tried some alternative treatments such as deep-tissue massage therapy (which I lurve), bekam, exercise video on YouTube, traditional massage, infrared bet treatment and yoga. Still, all failed. I thought of going to a chiropractor but apparently it's not recommended if one is suffering from sciatica.
Mr. D and I did not want to have kids immediately upon married as we want to look cool (as we always think that bunting pelamin is not cool hehe). Also, we're not romantically and financially ready for kids. But lately, our biological clock is ticking so fast, so we wanted to make things work this time around. Unfortunately, my back pain is a major obstacle so I just had to do something about it.
Luckily, I had a cousin who works at a specialist center and she told me about a chiropractor there. Apparently he's very good and so I went for check up yesterday. After a rigorous process of Q & A, the doctor told me that I suffer from a medical condition called Scoliosis and slipped disc. So he suggested that I do an MRI and from there he'll be able to come up with a treatment plan. It's definitely going to dig a deep hole in my pocket but at times like this, I just couldn't give a rat's ass.
Wish me luck!
